Hajime Isayama: Early Life
Isayama was born in Oyama, Oita, Japan on August 29, 1986. He enrolled in the cartoon design program of the cartoon arts department, Kyushu Designer Gakuin, after graduating from Oita Prefectural Hitarinkou High School. He came to Tokyo after graduation and began sketching his manga masterpieces.
In 2006, he entered the Magazine Grand Prix, often known as MGP, which is sponsored by Kodansha Ltd., and his work, Attack on Titan, was awarded the Fine Work prize.
Initially, he sent his work to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump department, where he was urged to change his style and plot to be more fit for Weekly Shonen Jump. Instead, he opted to present it to the Weekly Shonen Magazine section of Kodansha Ltd.
